Yes, labor rights are coded into law
but also coded into law is a paragraph
that defines the entities able to
bargain collectively, and regarding
part-time teachers in state colleges
they are: "one who teaches over six
credit hours per semester". That
practically eliminates a lot of adjuncts.
Illinois is, I believe, the only state
that defines us in such an exclusionary
manner. Somehow, we need to bring pressure
to bear on our elected (sic) representatives
in Springfield.
There are two laws currently being processed
in Springfield that would open up adjuncts
to collective bargaining
