no respect

A few of the postings have mentioned the lack of a forum
for adjunct participation. I'd like to add my own grievance,
based on a personal incident: lack of respect for part-
timers by other members of the college community. Like
Rodney Dangerfield, we "get no respect". My academic
abilities were disparaged in an off-hand comment made
by a tenured instructor in my division. I may have just
been having a bad day and was overly sensitive, but I
feel it was an inappropriate and insulting remark. In
comparison to the big issues you have been discussing, this
may seem trivial. However, I do feel that how we are
treated as adjuncts does relate to how we are perceived.
Any suggestions as to how to handle this situation ?
I see this person frequently and want to express my
feelings, but as a part-timer, feel vulnerable and worry
about retaliation. For this reason, I am keeping my
identity private in this context as well. Thank you for
listening.
