Adjunct Faculty Associations

Remember the infamous Harper Decision ? In response to a petition from adjuncts at Harper College to form a union, a group of extremist anti-union judges wrote a disgraceful decision in 1993 curtailing the rights of part-time college instructors in our state. Named after the school whose adjuncts sought the petition, the heinous Harper Decision denied basic labor rights enjoyed by all other state employees, to all college adjuncts in Illinois.

Thankfully, through massive effort on the part of many working throughout the state, this ignominious statute has been overturned and consigned to the trash heap of history. Now, adjuncts at the school that started it all, finally have their own union. We congratulate them on this historic achievement.

The Part-time Faculty Association at Columbia College has also been carrying on the struggle. They also voted for a union and obtained a contract. Yes, there is hope !

  Elmhurst, IL 60126
  Phone: 630-941-0040
  Capitol Address: 127 Capitol Building
  Phone: 217-782-8107
Senator Cronin is a co-sponsor of House Bill 1720, and he needs OUR support as well, in his current re-election battle. Let him know that he is a champion of higher education, and that adjuncts and other concerned citizens appreciate his efforts on our behalf. Spread the word among family, friends, colleagues and neighbors to vote for Senator Cronin. If you or anyone you know would like to volunteer to work for his re-election, find out how at Senator Cronin's Website.

Senator: Kirk Dillard

  District Address: Westmont Centre
  Suite 201
  1 S. Cass Ave.
  Westmont, IL 60559
  Phone: 630-969-0990
Senator Dillard has expressed concern that lots of calls of support have come from Harper College ( some 25 miles from his district ), but hardly any from College of DuPage, in his own backyard ! If WE, who are the direct beneficiaries of House Bill 1720, don't care about its passage, why should he or anyone else ? Call him, write him, thank him for being one of the co-sponsors !
