CODAA President Joanne Barsanti's Greeting at COD President Dr. Sumil Chand's Investiture

Back to Updates Page

Welcome, Dr. Chand !

We were delighted to hear, at the PT faculty dinner, that you were looking forward to getting to know the part-time faculty better. Your part-time faculty are also looking forward to knowing you better and to working with you.

Just three short years ago, PT faculty were again told they had no collective voice even though they were then, and still are, the face of COD to at least 50% of the students. After negotiating with the Board, petitioning the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board (IELRB), and winning a consent election, CODAA, the College of DuPage Adjuncts Association finally became the recognized collective voice of part-time faculty.

Since this recognition, begun under Dr. Murphy, we are beginning to be included in some discipline conversations, we now have a seat with other constituencies at COD Board of Trustees meetings, and I am honored to have a seat on the Leadership Council which is chaired by you, Dr. Chand.

We now have respect as the educators we have always been. With this recognition and respect, comes responsibility. You, Dr. Chand, would say not only our responsibility but also our duty. Dr Chand, CODAA is eager to accept responsibility; not only as a representative of PT faculty, but also as an equal partner in the mission of the College of DuPage, to bring the best educational opportunities to the students and to the community.

We are looking forward to working with you.
